A Grand Day for Growth: Celebrating Our Sensory Garden Opening
On Saturday 3rd May, the Veterans Association proudly opened the gates to our brand new Sensory Garden, a peaceful and inclusive space created to support the wellbeing of veterans and provide a calming retreat for the wider community. The event was a huge success, filled with warmth, laughter, and a real sense of togetherness.
We were honoured to be joined by some amazing local representatives including:
  • Councillor Garner (Mayor of Broadstairs)
  • Margate Mayor Jack Packman and Mayoress Karen Brinkman
  • Councillor Abi Owen-Hughes, Chair of Thanet District Council
Their presence meant a great deal, and their continued support helps shine a light on the important work we’re doing. But the real heroes behind the creation of the garden? The incredible organisations and individuals who made it possible. A huge and heartfelt thank you to:
  • Skanska
  • B&Q
  • The Lions Club
  • The Rotary Club
  • Blossom in Bloom
  • The Secret Garden
  • Disability Awareness
And of course, our very own local veterans, who rolled up their sleeves and helped prepare and maintain the garden in the weeks leading up to the event. Without their time and effort, we wouldn’t have been ready for the big day. The celebration itself was buzzing with joy and entertainment. We were treated to fantastic performances by:
  • Laura Watson – Singer
  • McGill – Singer and Comedian
And when it came to food… oh, we delivered. A sizzling BBQ was run by our amazing team, and the legendary Bella’s from Broadstairs served up their unforgettable London-style pie, mash & liquor — bringing a proper taste of tradition and comfort. We also held a raffle filled with generous donations from local businesses and individuals, raising a fantastic £438 to support future veteran wellbeing projects. Thank you to the businesses who made it all possible:
  • The Waves Bar, Café & B&B Hotel – 1-night stay with breakfast
  • Quex Adventure Golf – Family pass for 4
  • Hollywood Bowling – Family pass for 4
  • Canine Cabin – Dog grooming session
  • Carlton Cinema – Family cinema tickets
  • FitUnion – 1-month free gym membership
  • Waterstones – 3-book bundle donation
  • Watson Brewery – Generous beer contributions
And all the amazing local community members who chipped in to support the cause. The day was more than just a celebration—it was a symbol of what we can achieve when people come together for a shared purpose. Thank you to every single person who helped bring the Sensory Garden to life. We’re proud. We’re grateful. And we're just getting started.
